2027: Ignore Election Prophecies, Judge Candidates by Performance, NCPC Boss Tells Nigerians

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite, has urged Nigerians to disregard prophecies predicting the outcome of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that candidates should be evaluated based on their performance and track record rather than prophetic declarations.

Speaking during an appearance on TVC’s Your View on Monday, August 3, 2026, Adegbite criticised religious leaders who issue political prophecies, arguing that many predictions made ahead of the 2023 general election failed to materialise.

Reflecting on the aftermath of the 2023 presidential election, the cleric recalled that some religious leaders refused to acknowledge President Bola Tinubu’s victory until the Supreme Court delivered its judgment on the election petitions.

“In 2023, when President Tinubu was declared the winner, some said they would not recognise him until the Supreme Court gave its verdict. But Nigerians had voted and we had a President until the court decided otherwise,” he said.

Adegbite advised politicians and their supporters to promote the strengths of their preferred candidates instead of attacking political opponents.

“You can have your own candidate, but don’t run down other people’s candidates. Sell your own candidate. Let people see what your candidate has done to justify becoming the President of Nigeria.”

The NCPC boss maintained that President Tinubu’s performance in office, particularly ongoing infrastructure projects, would ultimately influence voters ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sagamu-Benin Expressway demonstrate the administration’s efforts and should form part of the basis upon which Nigerians assess candidates.

He also condemned what he described as the growing trend of political prophecies by some clerics, alleging that many were motivated by the desire for publicity rather than divine inspiration.

“They only want attention. They want to attract crowds and traffic to their social media handles,” he said.

Adegbite added that the authenticity of any prophecy should be determined by whether it eventually comes to pass.

“By the time the election is over and the results are announced, we will know the true prophets in Nigeria.”

He further declared:

“We have 99 per cent false prophets in Nigeria. When you see true prophets of God, you will know.”

The cleric concluded by urging Nigerians to make informed electoral decisions by assessing candidates’ records, competence and programmes instead of relying on predictions from religious leaders.
